Care For Hedland Shorebird Workshop

The Care For Hedland Environmental Association is holding a Shorebird identification and surveying workshop along with Birdlife WA to coincide with Shorebird 2020 count this March. This is the first time formal bird watching surveys and identification field trips are being conducted for the public in Port Hedland.

Care For Hedland will be holding this free workshop for any keen birdwatchers in the region to come along and learn about how to find, identify and record the shorebirds in the Pilbara region.

The shorebird 2020 count is a national shorebird monitoring program throughout Australia which aims to gain a better understanding of the populations of the nation’s shorebirds. Currently there is no counts being conducted in the Pilbara region.

The aim through this workshop is to have a group of local people who can come together and participate to record the shorebirds of Port Hedland to represent the Pilbara for the annual Shorebird 2020 count.

This workshop will be covering an Introduction to shorebird ecology, introduction to Shorebirds 2020 Project, shorebird identification features, field surveys, identification in the field and shorebirds of Port Hedland.

The workshop will be held on the Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of March. It will be held at The PPA Sealanes Centre, 71 Richardson St, Port Hedland from 9am to 4pm both days.
