Turtle Training

The Care For Hedland Environmental Association is again gearing up for the 2016/2017 Flatback turtle nesting season and the Association monitors two local Port Hedland beaches – Cemetery Beach & Pretty Pool Beach from November 2016 - March 2017.
There is a community volunteer training session on Saturday 29th October 2016 at the C3 Church from 10am-2pm.
The monitoring is in three components: morning track monitoring, evening monitoring/ eco tours for people watching turtle nesting and a 50-night mark/recapture tagging program.
Volunteers get the opportunity to observe Flatback turtles returning to the sea, see hatchlings emerge from nests, assist in turtle rescues, observe the nesting process at night and be hands on and assist in the mark/recapture tagging program.
If you are interested contact Care For Hedland Turtle Program Morning Coordinator Tamarand Cresswell at email: turtle@careforhedland.org.au or (mob) 0447 907 661 for further information.
