Reef Monitoring

Reef Monitoring

Reef Watch is Care for Hedland's intertidal reef monitoring program. Last year, through a grant from Atlas Iron, Care for Hedland engaged scientists from the WA Museum to assist with baseline biodiversity surveys.

We now are monitoring three sites on a seasonal basis including;

Finucane Island;

Cemetery Beach; and

Cooke Point.

The aim ongoing monitoring is to identify trends in terms of coral health and biodiversity which will enable use to identify if the reef's overall health is in decline. We use several survey methods including transects, photo quadrate survey and rigosity survey.

Programs in 2017: TBA.
